Our Video Details
Who: Michael
What: He get an unexpected promotion
When: April 2020
Where: San Diego, CA
Why: Because he’s amazing.
Michael started his career in the Navy long before he ever attended the Naval Academy, before he ever swore the oath, or stepped foot on a helicopter. His talented father David Lee Sr. achieved the exemplary position as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps as a helicopter pilot. His gifted and truly inspiring grandfather Chester Lee achieved the astounding position of Captain in the Navy as a surface warfare officer; commanding multiple destroyers, and surviving a massive surface combat off of Alaska. There is a book about it called “The Battle of Komandorski Island” check it out, CLICK HERE.
Then his grandfather became the ground mission commander at NASA for several Apollo missions. These amazingly dedicated, talented, and annoyingly smart men were born to strive and succeed.
Michael has a bachelor’s in science with a major in political science. Earned his wings of gold (flight wings for Navy) in Pensacola, Florida. Joins a fleet squadron in San Diego flying on deployment for years and then was assigned to be a flight instructor (because he was so well behaved) for another 2 years in San Diego. Then was chosen to be an Admiral’s aide in Virginia and Bahrain for 1 year each. He came back to Jacksonville, Florida to recertify his helicopter training and then off to San Diego to join another squadron and go back out to sea for 3 years. He then served as a member of the Air Boss’ staff in San Diego for the next 3 years. He was selected for command in Los Angeles for the recruiting department for LA, Hawaii, Gaum, and Japan. After that he was on to more distant and difficult tasks as the Air Boss of the Essex, an LHD (or as I call it a mini carrier) which houses 2,000 souls on board. Beyond this great achievement he was the first Air Boss to deploy the Joint Strike Fighter (F35B) to the Persian Gulf. He did this without error to this delicate $250 million-ish aircraft. And now he’s the executive officer of the San Diego command teaching ethics, leadership, and character to future naval leaders.
So, without further ado, Michael has been officially chosen for CAPTAIN in the Navy. I am so proud of him and appreciate his hard work he has continued to contribute to this amazing career of 23 years. Michael, thank you so much for your service, you are a true inspiration. I love you so much.
Xoxo,
Chloe
